blindfold posting..

it’s been getting very boring on weekends.. been boozing for the last 2 weekends.. so didnt buy anything this week. just finishing off the last 4 beers from the case I bought last week. I am experimenting with this.. to test how good are my typing skills..I am actually typing this with my eyes closed… yeah I ama touch typist.. and I am more comfortable with my eyes closed, specially hen I am drunk

I remembeer reading somewhere that when you have to concentrate onsomething with one sense, then it is better to have the other senses switched off.. like if you have to listen to soemthing important or smell something good.. then it s better to keep your eyes closed.. so I just wanted to try that with typing too..

now that I have switched my sense of sight off.. where does teh edxtra energy go.. I mean..that extra *&^*&^ to conecntrate go?? probably to myt writing  skills or to my brain so that it can dictate better stuff to my hands..

I have tried listening to some podcasts lately.. but osmehot I was not very impressed with the stuff.. it is different from the regular writing posts.. but  the main disadvantage is that you cant skip things you dont like and finish the stuff faster.. yeah you can always forward it but youdont know aht you missed.. but when you read something and dont like parts of it.. you can always sip a line or two.. and moreover my reading speed is much faster than what they can speak.. one thing I would probbably miss is the emotions with whcich they talk.. but I got used to reading already..and I can easily make out in what tone they are writing..  one advantage with this podcast or an audio video blog is that you can just play it in the background and listen to the stuff.. and carry on with your work.. maybe read soemthing else.. I sometimes play music when I am reading soemthing unimportant.. but nw I lose that luxury.. I hav tried to read stuff while listening to some serious discussions about  some issues.. I should say I have succeeded a bit, but I aint very comfortable with it yet.. dont know if I woudl continue  that.. I am able to do it .. but I am nto able to enjoy doing it.. maybe after I get used to it, I’llstart enjoying it.. but he thing is that if I am reading and listening to something compeltely disjoint topics.. would I be also able to keep two moods? one for the audio stuff I am listenint to and one for the texgt I am reading? I cant imagine doing that… If I get pissed off in one medium.. it sure will carry on to the other medium..

closing my eyes for long pushes me to switch off my brain.. getting abit lazy and slowe r with t the key strokes..  donno what I haeve tow rite.. yeah but there is one last bottle of beer wating for me.. here I come Carlsberg darling!!!

paragliding P2

April 7, 2008 by pradeep

yet again I am publishing a post 2 months after I wrote the draft.. think I should stop saving drafts and post whenever I am moving away from my desk.. even if it were to drink water

I thought I would contine with how I spent the first day of the new year with jenny n seenu in that resort in pune.. drive on the express way in my bro’s getz.. reached a top speed of 160kmph for a moment, consitent on 150. took a pic of that too :D dont know if I would be able to beat that in europe with the strict rules.. havent tried driving yet in Denmark, so I dont know the top speeds here.. not sure if I would be able to drive on Autobahn this year. but will do it sometime.. nalli on call.. save draft? nope.. publish :D

———

done with the P2 course before coming to Denmark. It was good, but not as much as we expected. It was probably bad timing as the winds were changing from east to west. but this was an advantage too as we got to fly from 3 different locations in 4 days.. pavana lake, tower hill, shellar. pavana lake was the most scenic of all. I wanted to soar as long as I can but the flight hardly lasted 15min.. same was the case with tower hill. but with 750 odd feet height, it gave a very good feeling of flying. The best one was the shellar one. had a long flight.. for about 40min.. soared much higher than from where I took off.. got a feel of actual flying.. I plan to get back to flying as soon as I go back.
Trying to recollect what all happened.. it always happens that when jenny is around, he gets all the memories.. ofcourse the funny ones… the one when jenny turned towards the ridge( you are not allowed to do that) and TJ yelled ‘where is your bloody mind’.. lolz.. and the other one..

TJ: janardhan please turn left

Jenny:(starts turning right)

TJ: janardhan please turn left

Jenny:(turns further right)

TJ: left, left, janardhan, LEFT,  LEFT

Jenny: (turns further right.. thinks-why is this man shouting even when I am following the instructions so religiously)

TJ: the other left janardhan.. THE OTHER LEFT

Jenny: (now realizes that he has been turning towards the WRONG left, i.e right. now starts a left turn)

TJ: THANK YOU

I fly!!!

We were planning and postponing this trip for almost an year now and finally we made it.
Jenny and I were fighting over how to go to pune. He wanted to go in a train and I wanted to go in a bus.. But we couldnt get our train tickets confirmed even after booking about 3 weeks in advance. Finally we had to go by bus. And that too in the last but one row, coz we didnt book them in advance in hope of the train tickets getting confirmed. We had to take the aptdc volvo.. and in the bus, the 3 of us were discussing about the latest developments in nalli’s love life.. that boy seems to have grown up. :) Akhil couldnt afford another day’s leave so he worked till afternoon on Friday and caught a flight.

We had friday off as we had planned the course from saturday. As the place we stayed was far away from the city, we couldnt go to pune for shopping. We went to ‘Om Shanti Om’ in Adlabs and akhil was outside the movie hall half an hour before the movie got over and kept buzzing us.. However we managed to keep him waiting till the end of the movie. Then I bought rbk shoes there and we went to dinner with my bro at ‘toni da dhaba’. tried crab, but I didnt like it much.. akhil relished it, and ordered for another one for himself. The reason I didnt like it was that it was not worth the effort. It takes a lot of effort to break open the shell and we get very little to eat.. The same reason why I dont like fish with bones or thorns. Tried emu bird after that.. It was kinda ok.. but it tasted more like mutton than a bird.. saw one of them in their farm.. they were very huge birds.. and the meat was supposed to be very low on fat. But I didnt eat much as I had to get up early the next morning and I already had cough..

The next day(sat) morning, we were ready for the training at 7:30am near the training hill. We went to the site after tea and started learning ground handling. It was probably the toughest part of the course. We were struggling to keep the glider over ours heads.. and then we were told that it is not the glider that has to be on the top, but we have to be exatly in the center under it :). It was a bit easy after that. Then we learnt about different parts of the glider, how to inflate the glider, and keep it up.. It was just like how I used to fly kites when I was a kid, when there was not enough wind.. just hold it up and run.. and it’ll rise.. though not as easy as it sounds. During ground handling, we used heavier gliders which were just for training and not actual flying.
Then we went for the lunch break.. had some nice home cooked chicken after a long time, a short nap and a long chat.. and then we went back to training. the winds are favourable a little after 3pm.. In the afternoon we practiced hops. we just ran on the slope and the glider took us into the air for about 5 seconds a time, a few feet away from the ground and then back.. the first feeling of airborne was good, but the flights didnt last longer. And then towards the end of the day, I got ready for my first solo flight, the most awaited moments of the trip. As we had proper ground handling training and in the hops, learnt how to take off and land.. I was ready.. but still when I was on the hill and was ready to take off, I asked pankaj(my trainer) to wait for moment, closed my eyes, took a deep breath, inflated the glider and took off.. The one thing that scared me was that if the glider did not inflate properly, I could always run a bit further during the hops, but here on top of the hill I didnt not have that option. Moreover the other side of the hill was very steep - direct drop and I didnt want to imagine what would happen if the glider pulled me a little back.
But once I got into the air, all my fears were gone.. the flying was so soft.. and I was able to understand why Avi said that flying was easier than ground handling. and I was not worried about landing coz, he added that even a pack of potatoes would land properly. It was a slow descent, lasting about a minute. I couldnt believe I was flying. I was trying to look into the horizon, the beauty of the nature around, let the glider drift to it’s will for a moment and then turned and went straight into the landing spot…. and then as I came closer to the ground,Once on the ground I had a great feeling of accomplishment. I’ve been in the skies!! on my own!!!
In the next two days we continued with more flights.

That was P1 course.. ground handling, landing, and other basics. This month-end we are planning for the next course after which I can stay in the air for more than 30mins..
